Here’s what’s up with me this week:
What I’m Reading:
Digging in to Copyediting and Proofreading for Dummies, in preparation (I hope) for paying work. For school, there is Breathing the Page, by our instructor and founder of The Writer’s Studio, Betsy Warland. For pleasure, I’m alternating between Betsy’s Only This Blue, and my friend Jess Faraday’s Turnbull House.
What I’m Writing:
Lots of comments on other people’s blogs for Blogging 101. A page about editing, for this blog (still draft/private, but coming soon). Starting today, story work on the manuscript I’m working on for Minding Your Manuscript (which I wish were more tangible than imaginary). And near-final edits on a short story for an anthology my original writing group, the Psychocommagrlz, are planning the publish in 2015.
What’s Working for Me:
Having to hand in homework in the Minding Your Manuscript class. Betsy is a stickler for participation, attendance, and doing the work (because there’s no better way to learn to write, than to write). She’s also inspiring and insightful and unbelievably eloquent.
What Else I’ve Been Up To:
Still planning the entries for The Dictionary Project, which starts next Wednesday, with Volume X, the Atlas. MAPS!
Been to the gym a whole bunch of times. Had a massage today, for the first time in two months. My therapist was away, looking after her husband who had a stem cell transplant to battle a blood cancer that isn’t leukemia. He’s doing well, and she’s back at work, and I’m back on the monthly schedule of massage therapy to keep my body from tightening up.
And I nearly forgot to mention! I mapped my registered domain name to my WordPress blog, so now I’m wendybarron.com! There were technical issues — of course there were — but between NetNation and WordPress’s help pages and people, it’s all working fine now. And if I ever have to do it again, I’ll know what to do this time.
